Ditch Those New Year Resolutions

Ditch Those New Year Resolutions

I love starting the New Year off with new hopes and dreams. In our culture it seems to be customary to reflect on the past and set goals for the future. While many resolutions focus on personal development, health, or career ambitions, adopting a Godly perspective can provide a transformative framework for our aspirations. I pray that this year be a journey guided by faith, love, and a deep connection with our Father. I wanted to share with you some of my personal ambitions and areas in my spiritual life that I hope to make more intentional in 2024.

  1. Seek God and Pray: Before outlining specific goals, seek God's guidance through prayer. Invite Him to reveal His will for your life in the coming year. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to "trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

  2. Spiritual Growth: Make it a priority to deepen your relationship with God through consistent prayer, Bible study, and fellowship with other believers. Set aside time each day to be with God, seeking wisdom, strength, and understanding. Psalm 119:105 encourages us with the words, "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."

  3. Practice Gratitude: In the pursuit of godly aspirations, nurture a spirit of gratitude. Appreciate the blessings in your life, both big and small, recognizing that all good things come from God. Gratitude not only fosters a positive outlook but also aligns your heart with the God's will. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 reminds us, "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."

  4. Serve Others with Love: Jesus set the ultimate example of selfless love through His life and sacrificial death. Aspire to follow in His footsteps by serving others with compassion and kindness. Identify ways to use your talents and resources to make a positive impact in your community. Galatians 5:13 encourages us, "Serve one another humbly in love."

  5. Foster Healthy Relationships: Prioritize relationships that honor God and encourage your spiritual growth. Cultivate love, forgiveness, and understanding in your interactions with family, friends, and colleagues. Proverbs 27:17 reminds us, "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another."

  6. Embrace Humility: In the pursuit of your goals, embrace a spirit of humility. Recognize that your abilities and achievements are gifts from God, and approach challenges with a teachable heart. James 4:10 advises, "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up."

As we start this new year with a godly perspective, remember that your goals and dreams are part of a larger plan. Let your journey be a testament to the transformative power of aligning your aspirations with the will of God. May this year be a time of spiritual growth, joy, and fulfillment as you walk hand in hand with God. Much love, Jodi
